STING and the Cops
Hi Kids - I wasn't into them at the time, but I'm all caught up now. Yes, three great musicians, and Sting has inspired me with his basslines. Interesting, articulate songs, out here in South Dakota - nobody thought much of these guys when they showed up. Our bad! Textured guitar sounds of Mr Summer...

Wyman on "Paint it Black"
Yoo bet! I saw this in one of the Fender Bass books, he said he modified the body and removed the frets, found he could play pretty well by referencing the fretlines. Apparently he was unhappy with this cheaper-quality bass, and desired a change. Our old band did this one with our fretless bassist.....

Hey Jason - I saw this awhile back. Many stories are out there......you'll see some interesting ones. Good question - they oughta build a church around it, if true. I just glommed on to the Jaco 1985 Modern Electric Bass instructional video. Alfred is the company that put it out....oh my garsht! Wha...

UK rocks!!
Thanks for checking in - I must tell ya - we had a cover band back in 81-83, that played almost entirely, Budgie songs. I was most heartened to hear of your connection, back then we didn't know about the early stuff, or that they were still going without Tony B at that time. Out here in South Dakota...

Favorite Fretless Player!
I have a personal favorite - a fella used to play Bass in our band back in the 80's. Mike O'Brien - "OB" was my introduction to a real, live fretless bassist. You couldn't learn much - it seemed to be a hand position thing, sounded oh so sweet, and he always did the right thing musically. Fit the gr...

Howdy - thanks for the knowledge! As a fretless newbie, I am learning many "new" ideas.....you're passionate about the Bass. Well, me too. It's still fun after all these years, and you reinforce the notion that the cool guys play Bass. "yer cool when ya don't know it, when ya know it then ya ain't" ...

Thanks for the information......good stuff, I can use. Through the years, I've done some "adjusting".....one neck casualty - the first one I "helped". I've gotten better! It's rewarding to get a good setup, with my basses I get plenty of chances to try. Hot/cold dry/humid keeps things moving. You ga...

righteous!
Hey - I'm in a similar situation - been playing forever, now I found a fretless! Sure, I've listened to Jaco for years, and all the rest. It's a whole new thang, and it recharges my bass batteries. I have half a dozen basses, but frets are out at this point! One optimistic note - a friend of mine's ...
