double stop octaves.
i was screwing around with a guitar player's octave pedal and i noticed it has a pulsing element so then i played some double stop octaves and the pulsing was still there with out the pedal. i have not seen this paticular nuance in any books. does anybody know the science behind it?

vibrato with open strings...using sympathy.
in Barry Green's 'fundamentals of double bass playing' he say's you can make an open string vibrato by using the same note or it's octave on another string...this begs the question, if you're stopping the note on a diffrent string anyways then why not just play the stopped note? could the use of sym...

false harmonics. is that stopping the string with the left hand-and with the right using the side of the thumb to lightly touch at the 'false' harmonic while pulling the string with the fingers behind the thumb? if it's not then what's that called? something else that came up in 'the contemporary co...

thanks 68. ironically sliding harmonics is the only technique not coverd in the book which is otherwise very thorough; including an example that has the preformer put an evening dress on the double bass and later undress it and get in bed with the insturment. this is not a joke...it's really in ther...

pulled harmonics?
while reading bertram turetzky's 'the contemporary contrabass' i came across the term 'pulled harmonics'. bertram does not clearly explain what this is or how to excute it at all. what he does write is, "...a technique that can raise all the natural harmonics a microtone, a semitone, or even more de...

i like the tension of rotosound's flat black nylons. everybody's who picked it up likes em but sawdusky's are the best sounding flats i've used. i little wear and tear shouldn't put you off to rounds dude. boards can be sanded. epoxys can be applied. fender's can have their frets ripped out. what ki...

getting more out of your amp.
i was at a guys home studio and he had an 'isolation riser' under a peavey 15" combo. something like this. http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Auralex-Isolation-Riser-?sku=580002 i didn't want to spend 50 bucks so i went to a fabric store and got a 5 inch thick piece of foam and put my am...

the nylons must be cheaper to make cause they're a hell of a lot longer then the steels. i got selmer's from some people who just wrote the nicest things on the envolope. http://www.ilovemusica.com/shop.php?cat=6 keep in mind, you might not want the steels if you try them. as long as you promise not...

guitarron strings.
warning: this is not fretless. note: the guitarron is a fretless bass. if you don't know what a guitarron is or how it sounds then look it up. anyways, i got an acostic bass guitar. hohner korean made, now i did think about making it frettless but judged the neck to be too thin to risk. i put guitar...

as always, food for thought Since68. i'd hope carvin has cracked any distortion problems in these last ten years but like so many of our worlds injustice it's proably in the resposible parties best interest not to hear. i'll keep my eyes open for a yamaha trb 6II(P). what mods have you made to your'...

how long ago did you take the tour. i guess what interest me is a 6 string frettless with a piezo for under 2 grand and buying American. what i have heard is that their cabinets are on par with david eden but i've never even seen someone using a carvin head in person. if money wasn't an issue i'd ge...
