any soundman that ever tried that with me shit his own teeth the next day. rule #1 - never let a douchebag near your gear. #2- never let a douchebg do sound for you. hire a guy you trust. #3- if you can't hear yourself and you are not too loud for stage volume, move your amp so you can hear it.

the possible clank noise, is that from having epoxy filled frets or just an an epoxy coated board. can you go into that a little more please. also, i've been told you can get white fretlines by adding a little primer to the epoxy but i haven't tried it myself. the epoxy coated board can give you a ...

The Cure For A Dead spot

has anyone run into this problem. I recently chased away a dead spot on my 62' jazz. The string tree was in a bad spot on the stock. I moved it back and I now have sustain where once I did not.

tell me your cures for this ailment. are there othr ways of curing your bass to hold on to a note.

Re: Any fretless expert luthiers out there?

I would like to have fret lines added to my board and then have it epoxied. I know Thor has a great reputation but he also has a 2 year waiting list. Is there anyone else recommended? I'm in Nova Scotia Canada. Closer the better, but quality of work is more important to me than shipping cost. Thank...

what is the need for a 6 string bass? if you are in that upper tear aren't you really then a guitarist? I get the Low B. But I've always failed to see the need for a High C string and everything above it. There's really no money above the 5th fret. I tend to really play too. I just see that whole ex...

Jaco Pastorius, Tony Franklin, Pino Palladino, Tony Levin, Stanley Clarke [upright] When I first heard the Firm album I went nuts. I t wasn't until I head Blue Murder that I had to get one of those. That was 1989. I got mine in 1990. I began playing it out live 4 weeks later. I've played all over th...

Tonal versatility

I see alot of posts about how to get this sound or that one. when playing fretless bass, things change your tone like hand placement, pickup choice and tone knob selection. it's mostly in your hands. so if you play bass and you like getting many tones as apposed to one tone, use your hands and knobs...

PJ pickup is really good for rock playing. the P pickup gives you the bottom end and the J gives you the middle growl. when they are both on the bass sounds thick and decisive. a Precision like Tony Franklin's or Pino Paladino's 72 Precision specials are real versatile. I've been playing fretless ba...

My first post. Pau Ferro is a harder rosewood. It is less bright than ebony but more bright than rose wood. Regualr rose wood is softer and will wear more when using round wound strings. Ebony is harder and is chosen for it's durability and brightness. Pau Ferro is just right. I swear by it. and it ...
