Re: Low B and beyond

Thank you very much! That was the information I was seeking. I believe I will stick with my 4 string basses, and for this reason: I have played 4 string basses for 36 years now and I am comfortable with that format. My recent downsizing to a smaller (lighter) amp reinforces this decision. Besides, I...

Re: Low B and beyond

Thanks for your reply. My problem was not so much the feel of the B string, but the fact that I had to pluck twice as hard to get anywhere near the same volume out of it. I know that the lower the frequency, the more power it takes to reproduce that frequency, but my question is: how much more power...

Low B and beyond

I would like to pose a question to all here at the forum. Some day in the future, I may graduate from the venerable 4 string and move into the world of extended range fretless. If/when this happens, how much power is necessary to properly reproduce the low B string at a level comparable to the highe...

Re: Tone - Why Is Bolt-On Neck considered Better?

First the disclaimer: I am a bolt-on devotee. I have played, auditioned, and even considered buying several neck-thru basses, but always stay with the bolt-on. That said, the tone I love comes from my Squier VM Jazz fretless by rolling the front pickup volume back slightly, leaving the bridge pickup...

After having had nearly a year now to get acquainted and acclimated to my fretless, I don't love my fretted bass any less, but have a greater appreciation for the extra effort it takes with ear training and greater precision on the fingerboard to properly play a fretless. That being said, I believe ...

Wow! Y'all have some fine axes! At the moment, I have only one bass-S101 JHB74. 4-string fretted, 2 soapbar humbuckers, high-mass bridge, 24-fret neck, alder body with 5-bolt assymetrical neck attachment. And above all, it didn't cost much! I'm not in financial condition to invest in a high-end bass...

Difference between bass guitarist and bassist

The fretless bass excites me like no other instrument I've ever picked up. I cobbled one together a few years ago out of remains I had laying around-neck from a yard sale special(short scale), hollow double-cutaway body, and a pickup from a Peavey t-40. It turned out pretty good, but I wound up givi...

Difference between a bass guitarist and Bassist

Newbie chiming in here-I've been a musician for 33 1/2 years now, and don't find it hard to agree with the previous posts, though my experience is a bit different. I'm considered a bassist by my peers, even though I started out on guitar(at my Dad's insistence). Planning on buying my first serious f...
