Thank you for extensive and informative reply! I have come to espect nothing less from you. Bravo! I am going back and forth on this. I put some new flats on my Spector core and cleaned up the board with fretboard conditioner and really liked the sound I got again. I also got a cheap Rogue fretless ...

Looking for input on Ebonol fretless fingerboards

I am looking for input from players who have fretless basses with ebonol fingerboards. I know that are a few production models (Kingstons, Curbows, Ibanez GWB35 and EDA900, Squire VM, etc) and some replacement necks (Mighty Mite) out there so there should be some people who can provide some field re...

I typically use my trusty Korg DT-3, which I've had for about 10 years. Very accurate, very reliable. I also have a Korg DT-10 pedal that I use sometimes.

I'm very interested in a Gary Willis! Unfortunately, it is not the right time financially for me!

This looks legit to me. That isn't the adjuster at the nut, that is a walnut plug, which is common for 1970's Fenders. There was also a variation of neck widths for P-basses in the 70's, there were 2 or 3 if I recall. It is a project bass, due to the heavy modifications, which is not atypical for th...

Hey, Jason, yeah the distortion can get pretty sick, especially on channel 2. Sometimes I'll dial in a nice fat tone on channel 1 and a schreeching hi-end distortion on channel 2 with the bass rolled off and the master up just enough and then blend the two for for a big full rock tone.

On most of my gigs I have the luxury of having a decent sound system with separate subs and I get to be the soundman! I have a Pearce BC1 preamp which has two independent channels that can be used individually or blended. They have different voicings, so I can set one for fretted and one for fretles...

Thanks for the tips. One question, how is the Minwax Poly on the fretboard? I have used it on unfinished Mighty Mite Maple necks, but never on a fretless fingerboard. Do you use flats or rounds? How durable is it and how much maintenance/touchup is required? I'd like to put a finish on my Spectorcor...

Great advice! I have played fretless exclusively on many gigs and have fooled people to think that I was playing fretted. Left hand technique is the biggest determining factor for me. I do not hold the notes very long and use the one finger per note approach. I play a lot of country covers where the...

I'll have to check out Dan K. Brown. My favorites are some of the usual suspects. Jack Bruce, first off. Watching the Cream reunion DVD made me go down to the music store and order my Spectorcore 5, which is now my primary bass. Pino Palladino has always impressed me with his fretless work, most not...

That is a difficult question to answer. Do you play bass now? If so, what kind of bass do you own? You could get a fretless version of your fretted model. What are you looking for in an instrument? Do you just want something to knock about on, or do you have other goals?
