Switched to fretless

Post by Heyman » Wed Mar 30, 2011 4:20 pm

After 25 years of playing fretted I bought a converted Bogart bass with graphite neck. I am totally blown away by the sound and the new way to play bass makes me so happy! I started to discover my instrument new and I'm having so much fun practicing again! I had a fretless before but it never fitted into my bands because I play rock music. Now I built some cool sounds with a Zoom b2 and made the fretless sound real bity and it works.

I play the bass most of the time like a fretted one and only let it shine were there's space enough.
Specs: body: wooden core, luthine body, neck: SKC carbon, 2 Bartolini jazz pus, 2band noll electonic. Sings like a bird...will test the new Bogarts at the Musikmesse Frankfurt... a 5 string Bogart would be my next dream!

Welcome to Fretless Bass 8)

As you can see (and hear  ) , it's a real pleasure to play fretless bass and make it sound like a woman... :D

I can make mine Mwah, Growl, Moan, even Shriek, but I haven't been able to get her to Purr...yet.

The female analogy (although somewhat sexist) is appropriate.
One good note makes my day.

I'm looking forward to the first gig with the fretless. I am happy my band accepted the carbon beast. I added the bass to the gallery but it does not appear until today..

I want to say that I'm not sexist. I love and respect women. What's more beautiful than making the analogy between a woman and the sound of a fretless bass

I remember my first concert with my fretless.
Very concentrated to do no wrong notes.

Cold sweats assured

They play like fretted players. That's why nobody knows if they're fretless player

I like Pino Palladino, Jannick Top (french bass player), Sting... in rock bass players 8)

New question... I love the sound of my bass but I'd like to have another look. Should I sell it to buy another bass for the optics (and hopefully also for the sound) or keep it because of the sound? :-)

OK, let's try. Here we go: SKC Bogart carbon neck converted fretless:

This pic shows the bass like it was when I got it. I put a carbon-look foil over the body.. it is a headless with a headstock. Strings are only locked at the headstock!

I don't have any recordings with the Bogart yet. But I've been to the Musikmesse in Frankfurt and visited Bogart there.. what can i say.. I ordered one of their new Bogart Sport models, a fretless 5 string.. wow!!!
