Why should I not try this...

OK, my first post here... I've been playing in bands for over 40 yrs but mostly I've played keys... I've been playing bass in a cover band for ~6 yrs. and I have five fretted basses... Tell me why a Fender Jaco might not be the best option for my initiation to fretless... I'd really appreciate your insight!

OK, Why NOT get a Fender Jaco.

The Fender Jaco Relic is expensive. You could get a functionally identical Fender fretless Jazz for much less money. Personally, I would love to have one (Fender Jaco) but I play mainly five and six string these days.

That bass has a lined fingerboard. An unlined Ebony fingerboard is regarded as more musical and esthetically pleasing by myself and some other fretless players.

If your tone goal is to get an upright bass vibe then a piezo P/U would help. The Fender Jaco does not have such a P/U.

Actually I think that bass is an excellent choice. Jaco knew a thing or two about fretless bass but had fewer choices that we have today..
One good note makes my day.
