new finish on my de-fretted L 2500

Post by Rando » Tue Jan 13, 2015 7:47 pm

Here's a couple pics of the fingerboard refinish on my L 2500. Removed the dots, added small dots at each old fret location.
I used Min-Wax "Polyshades" in "espresso" tint for several very thin coats, then half and half with Wipe-On Poly Satin, followed by straight Wipe-On Poly Satin. Wet sanded to 2000 grit with a radius block, followed by buffing compound and a small random orbital automotive buffer. Graph-Tek nut, and strung with GHS Pressurewounds. I also did Ken Baker's bridge modification where you bolt down the bridge with 5 screws and threaded spacers. Top Load only, now, but considerably more sustain. So far, so good.
